Alexa Stipkala
Health and Wellness Promotion Coordinator
Alexa is the Health Promotion and Wellness Coordinator for the Staff Care Services Center. In her current role, she creates webinars, challenges and written content to engage the workforce in the pursuit of better health. Her mission is to deliver established research and information in a simple format so that individuals can feel empowered to make changes to improve their well-being.
Alexa spent many years of her career in the international health arena, including working in monitoring and evaluation of HIV care and treatment in Durban, South Africa under the PEPFAR program. There, she exercised her skills in systems improvement to seek better ways for patients to access medical care. Her focus later shifted to conducting research, spending three years developing materials at the World Bank on topics including HIV, reproductive health and non-communicable diseases, followed by six years as a health researcher supporting USAID’s global operations. At KonTerra, Alexa has returned to her passion creating content around behavior change and enjoys connecting with the USAID community around the world.
Alexa holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a focus in Health Behavior and Health Education. She is trained as a Diabetes Lifestyle Coach through Emory University’s Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center. She is also working on studying for the Certified Public Health Educator (CHES) certification. She lives in Northern Virginia with her two children, and can often be found baking, hiking, and navigating new DIY projects.
