KonTerra’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Belonging matters.
We believe the workplace can be a place of health and healing. We are committed to an organizational culture where differences and identities are valued and where everyone feels welcome and empowered to bring their full, authentic selves to work. This is belonging.
Our commitment to a culture of belonging makes us more creative, more empathetic, and better decision makers. When we are better at what we do, we can then be a force for change in the world, working towards greater equity and justice.
We support diverse, international organizations, doing some of the most challenging work in the world, and we know, to do our best work, we must reflect diversity and embody equity and inclusion within our own walls.
Our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts are rooted in anti-racism. As a US-based organization, we recognize that the United States was built on the stolen lands and attempted genocide of Indigenous people and the enslavement of Black people. The structures of racism and oppression that have evolved over time perpetuate inequity today and we are committed to building our awareness and analysis of and actions to dismantle white supremacy and institutional racism. Oppression manifests itself in many additional ways in the US and across the globe. As an organization working primarily with humanitarian and development organizations, a sector steeped in colonialism and other forms of inequity, it is important for us to be actively engaged in dismantling these structures within our sphere of influence. Our work as individuals and an organization to be anti-racist establishes the foundation to dismantle the structures that uphold oppression of all kinds.
We understand that in the course of our ongoing work to create a culture that embraces diversity, inclusion, and equity, we will make mistakes. When this occurs, we are committed to acknowledging our errors, apologizing to the impacted group, and developing processes to prevent these actions from occurring in the future.
